Hiroshima Cricket Club history
A group of Sri Lankan University students had started playing soft ball cricket near Kagamiyama park in Saijo,Higshi Hiroshima in summer. All were cricket fans and among them some were semi professionals who devoted their time to continue playing on almost every Sunday in the summer season. Gradually it become much more constructive by attracting the players from India,Pakistan, England ,Bangladesh and Australia.
Having played for months one Japanese had arranged a meeting with Japan Cricket Association Tokyo, to improve and popularize the game among young Japanese. Once they were here they came up with a idea to convert soft-ball cricket in to hard-ball. Most of the experienced players were against the idea by pointing out the hazard when playing with freshers. Having argued for hours and came to a conclusion to start in a small way.
JCI had arranged a friendly match with Fukuoka Cricket Club in August 1999 at Hiroshima. We lost the game by 100 runs due to lack of practices and poor performances of players who hadn't played hard-ball cricket ever. At that time we had only one bat and few balls. We are still grateful to the players of FCC for lending us cricket goods.
Soon after the match De Silva and Prasanna had managed to get down some cricket goods from Sri Lanka which we are still using, and capable of having a good game.
We made it clear this season the importance of hard work by gaining the highest award in the HCC history by winning the West Japan Cricket Championships award. Many thanks to Indaka who had played remarkably well in batting & bowling.
